[Health] - "Effects Of Alcohol On The Body"

Greetings and welcome to my new blog post! Over the last couple of weeks within this term (Term 2) in Health class with Ms Dougherty, we've been focusing on drugs and alcohol. We've learnt all sorts of things about alcohol, such as the effects that has on you, your body and etc. Here is an image informing you of the task/activity we've been doing during class time this day. So we have here... the effects to of alcohol on your body, and also the various types of what alcohol causes; such as addiction. What I found interesting within this lesson is... alcohol poisoning, I didn't know at first of what alcohol poisoning was, until I researched information on YouTube, that it affects body temperature, blue pale skin. [Social Studies] - "Darker Side Of Chocolate" Video Task

Greetings and welcome to my new blog post, throughout most of this term, in Social Studies with Ms Robertson, we've been learning and discussing about Child Labour. Today, we've looked in-depth towards it and have learnt about the people in Ghana who provide Dark Chocolate for people around the world. We've also been completing some activities and tasks relating towards an issue in Ghana, in which is the resources that they need for the people; especially the children in Ghana who are working in cocoa farms. Cocoa farm workers in Ghana have gotten help from Fair Trade, as they have provided them with resources such as water taps that pump healthy water for everyone, and also nutrition foods. The video that we have watched was named 'The Darker Side Of Chocolate', and this video was about cocoa workers in farms, which relates to what I've stated. Thank you for your time :)

Fashioned For You

1) Differentiate between metals and nonmetals in terms of Physical and Chemical properties:

2) Relate the metals to it’s uses:

Iron:

Iron is a chemical element and metal. Steel is a well known and commonly used alloy made from iron and a small amount of carbon (or sometimes other elements.) Iron is relatively cheap to produce and has a large number of different uses. Machines, vehicles and building structures are commonly built from iron (usually in the form of steel.)

Gold:

Gold is a chemical element. Compared to other metals, gold is less chemically reactive. There is a system in which is called ‘gold standard’ which fixes a unit of money to a certain weight of gold. Injectable gold has been proven to help reduce pain and swelling in patients suffering from various diseases such as tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis.  

Silver:

Silver is a chemical element. It is a soft and shiny metal that has been used for many years to make fine pieces of jewelry, coins, utensils and various pieces of art. It is also precious indeed. In modern times, silver is also used in dentistry, electronics, photography, mirrors and in number of industrial applications that make use of its unique properties.

3. Describe how alloys are made and discuss the importances:

Alloys are found in various sorts of things including dentistry (teeth fillings), jewelry, door locks, musical instruments, coins, gun and etc. Alloys are metals combined with other substances in order to make them better in some way. However, some people think that the term ‘alloys’ defines the mixture of metals, well the actual definition of alloys are materials made up of at least two different chemical elements, one of which is a metal.

[Social Studies] - "Human Rights Assessment" Introduction

Human Rights

We will conduct a Social Inquiry on the Human Rights issue of Inhuman treatment and torture (Article 5 of the Universal Human Rights Bill) . Our case study will focus on the country of Afghanistan.

Introduction: The Human Rights issue that we will be researching is “Inhuman treatment and torture.” The reason why we have chosen this topic is because we have prior information about this topic and we feel strongly that it is something that shouldn’t happen and is an important issue that needs to be stopped. There are numerous people within the Middle-East, in Afghanistan that have been subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Within the research that has been done, we’ve found that there has been Afghan Police Officers killed in a Taliban attack, in Afghanistan, Gardez.

[English]- "Expressive Writing: Why are young people focused on fighting?"

Why are young people focused on fighting?

Fighting, arguing… whatever you want to describe it as. Definition of fighting, is the action of violence, caused by discrimination, aggression, in which all decreases our limitations… of striving to succeed. Power doesn’t come from the hate and anger that strives within us, it comes from the will of hope, the hope that withstands our need of helping our friends and family. Witnessing the lives of others who see life without a definition is an experience that I’ve encountered many times throughout my life. If you’re reading this, wondering what it’s like of people causing violence, well it’s almost as if you were to be watching, ‘animals’ willing to overcome the fear of being “afraid,” and stand up in a negative way.

Have you ever felt pain, as if you were to be feeling wounded, not just physically, but mentally & emotionally… well you may or may of have not noticed, that everyone & anyone, can feel pain. The moment that you hear and feel the excruciating pain, streaming upon your bones and flesh, you have experienced something that some of us have in common, anxiety, stress, fear of something that may decrease your reputation. Now this may be a big problem for the majority of us as ‘human beings,’ in which is gaining pressure upon ourselves and from others, such as your friends and maybe your siblings, but especially your friends. This pressure is well-known to be called, ‘peer-pressure.’ Peer-pressure can lead to bad decisions, as it is a cause that informs you to choose to do the wrong thing, at the wrong time and in the wrong place. There are times that your friends or siblings may tell you to do this, do that… but ideally think that it is wise to follow a well-known quote, said by Oprah Winfrey herself, “Only surround yourself with people who will lift you higher.”  

[English]- "Expressive Writing: Why are uniforms important?"

Why are uniforms important? 

As a formal student at Tamaki College, in Glen Innes, Auckland, I will speak with respect to announce that uniforms are important, and there are numerous reasons as to why that is. Within this piece of writing, I will be stating the importance of uniforms, and why they are important.

People... students specifically, may have no idea what the importance of uniforms are, and they wouldn’t know what uniforms can do. Well first of all, uniforms come in a price, and sooner or later... we have to pay that price with the help of our parents or family members, in order for us to ‘fit in.’ Not all that we just have to ‘fit in’, it’ll make us comfortable in any way possible. Most students nowadays, have no respect towards uniform, as they consider them as, “similarity between themselves and others.” I get the reason as to why most students would prefer ‘other clothes’ than ‘uniform,’ as they are willing to look different from the rest, therefore… to either gain popularity or to be different from others.

Have you ever wondered about what uniforms can do for you, and others? Well, you may not be thinking about others, if you were to be thinking about yourself… am I right? There are students out there, who are feeling worried if the school were to be a ‘non-uniform’ school. Most of us never witness or feel that ever happen to ourselves, and that is what I am going to talk about. Imagine if you didn’t have enough clothes to go around for the years of living life as a student in college. Agonising, am I right… well that’s the thing for most students who have insufficient funds, meaning not having much money to pay for new clothes of such.

Money is everything, and everything is from money. If you’re starting to get an idea of what I’m trying to talk about, you should also have a reason as to what having no uniform, such as the effects that can be caused within your social and your mental/emotional well beings. You may never know whether someone is having a bad day, so ideally think that people should start thinking about what they’re saying because that could lead to a cause. A cause in which will affect their opinions on their very own lives. So therefore, it is always wise to follow this well-known quote, “Think before you do” - Efthimis.
