[Social Studies] - "Native Tribe Study Presentation Summary"

Throughout the past few weeks in Social Studies with Ms Robertson, we've been focusing mainly on rain forests, as it is a place in which holds significance of our world. Here is our Native Tribe Study presentation, which was presented by myself, Lennyx, and Kacia. Thank you for visiting my blog, I appreciate it a lot!

Summary Paragraph
As we’ve just finished presenting our native tribe study on the Baka Pygmies, in conclusion, I shall say that the Baka Pygmies are very interesting indeed. They all share their advantages and disadvantages with each other and they are capable of succeeding more in life if they had the essential resources for their cultural survival. In saying that, the Baka Pygmies have a cultural significance upon the rain forest as they are the indigenous people of Central African rain forests. It is a pleasure to study native tribes around the world because I personally have an interest of researching about people that I haven’t or known about that live in our world.

Within our presentation, we have mentioned that the Baka Pygmies are nomadic people of Central Africa (along with other Pygmy tribes), which means that they live the life of travellers, travelling from place to place to find fresh pasture for their animals and etc. They are also in large threat of displacement and prejudice as the process of deforestation has taken up their area and now they suffer a severe lack of essential resources for their cultural survival. We’ve also mentioned all the information about who they are or what religions that they have, which is Animism.

To conclude this blog post, the Baka Pygmies are an importance or “significance” towards our world as they help take care of the rain forest that help us develop fresh air or oxygen for our daily activities. As stated on my last blog post about the significance of the rain forest, the rain forest is important to us because it is a place that produces oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2), and also the process of photosynthesis was included, and the phenomenal aspects of these processes in the rain forests are from plants/trees and decay in which we use as fossil fuels. Thank you very much for your time!

[Social Studies] - "Darker Side Of Chocolate" Video Task

Image result for dark ghana chocolate

Greetings and welcome to my new blog post, throughout most of this term, in Social Studies with Ms Robertson, we've been learning and discussing about Child Labour. Today, we've looked in-depth towards it and have learnt about the people in Ghana who provide Dark Chocolate for people around the world. We've also been completing some activities and tasks relating towards an issue in Ghana, in which is the resources that they need for the people; especially the children in Ghana who are working in cocoa farms. Cocoa farm workers in Ghana have gotten help from Fair Trade, as they have provided them with resources such as water taps that pump healthy water for everyone, and also nutrition foods. The video that we have watched was named 'The Darker Side Of Chocolate', and this video was about cocoa workers in farms, which relates to what I've stated. Thank you for your time :)

[Science] - "Fashioned For You: Metals & Nonmetals"

Fashioned For You

Image result for metals

1) Differentiate between metals and nonmetals in terms of Physical and Chemical properties:
Physical Properties (Metals)
Chemical Properties (Nonmetal)
Heavy
Reactive
Good conductors of heat & electricity
Tend to lose electrons easily and form ions that are charged positively
Lustrous (shiny)
Forms of elements such as Sodium and etc
High melting point
Dull (Not shiny)
Can be hammered
Soft
Can be drawn into wires
Brittle (breaks easily into smaller pieces)
Usually solid at room temperature
Low density (light)
Opaque (Can’t see through it)
Low melting points

2) Relate the metals to it’s uses:
Iron:
Iron is a chemical element and metal. Steel is a well known and commonly used alloy made from iron and a small amount of carbon (or sometimes other elements.) Iron is relatively cheap to produce and has a large number of different uses. Machines, vehicles and building structures are commonly built from iron (usually in the form of steel.)

Gold:
Gold is a chemical element. Compared to other metals, gold is less chemically reactive. There is a system in which is called ‘gold standard’ which fixes a unit of money to a certain weight of gold. Injectable gold has been proven to help reduce pain and swelling in patients suffering from various diseases such as tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Silver:
Silver is a chemical element. It is a soft and shiny metal that has been used for many years to make fine pieces of jewelry, coins, utensils and various pieces of art. It is also precious indeed. In modern times, silver is also used in dentistry, electronics, photography, mirrors and in number of industrial applications that make use of its unique properties.

Science Kids, (July 8 2016) Metal Facts. Retrieved from:

3. Describe how alloys are made and discuss the importances:
Alloys are found in various sorts of things including dentistry (teeth fillings), jewelry, door locks, musical instruments, coins, gun and etc. Alloys are metals combined with other substances in order to make them better in some way. However, some people think that the term ‘alloys’ defines the mixture of metals, well the actual definition of alloys are materials made up of at least two different chemical elements, one of which is a metal.

Eagle, A. (July 8 2016) What are alloys? How are they made?

Second Part Of Science 10                  Fashioned For You:

Properties of Metals
1.         Have lustre - shiny
2.         Opaque -light cannot pass through it:
3.         Hard
4.         Strong
5.         hard-wearing – last long
6.         malleable – can be hammered into shapes
7.         ductile – can be drawn into wires
8.         good conductor of heat
9.         good conductor of electricity
10.     sonorous – produce ringing sound when hit
11.     usually solid at room temperature
12.     high density – usually heavy
13.     form basic oxides
14.     high melting point
15.     ions of metals have positive charges

Properties of Nonmetals:
1.         Dull – not shiny
2.         Soft
3.         Brittle – breaks easily into smaller pieces
4.         Low density – light
5.         Poor or non-conductor of heat and electricity
6.         Usually liquids or gases
7.         Low melting points
8.         Form acidic oxide
9.         Some ions have negative charges, others are neutral.

Introduction: The Human Rights issue that we will be researching is “Inhuman treatment and torture.” The reason why we have chosen this topic is because we have prior information about this topic and we feel strongly that it is something that shouldn’t happen and is an important issue that needs to be stopped. There are numerous people within the Middle-East, in Afghanistan that have been subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Within the research that has been done, we’ve found that there has been Afghan Police Officers killed in a Taliban attack, in Afghanistan, Gardez.

"Comic Man- Text- Reading"

This week for literacy, well... in reading, we have been generating our own questions so that maybe a friend or family can answer them in their spare time. This presentation is all about a text that a little boy likes to draw comics of his own but, I really don't want to spoil it for you so go on and click on the link provided in the presentation and scroll through the presentation to answer the questions given to you by me.... "The Horror House- Poetry Writing"

The Horror House
The room looks like a mess
But I couldn't care less
The t.v is beaming
Throughout the rotting ceiling
A harmless display?
A treat for the eye?
Perhaps, but be aware
For appearances lie
I looked in the draws
And witnessed old rusty saws

The room looked poor
Pieces of the ceiling covers the floor
Pieces of the wall has being
The bed is covered
In pieces from the wall

It smells like trash
It also smells like a man that had no shower year after year
It feels like i’m in a monster's lair
I can see a cool t.v but it doesn't work
The roof and floor needs to be clean without a smirk
It looks like a dump area
The bed felt like someone wet the bed
“What happened?”, as I said

I can smell rat poo
I can also see a rotten shoe
I can hear rats running around
I can also hear a awful sound
I can feel something crawling up my arm
As it makes its way  I feel really num

This room is dirty and also it’s awful and needs more cleaning
The floors are Beaming
and the roof is screaming
It smells like Garbage
so much carnage
need more varnish
So the wooden floors
won’t tarnish
It looks like trash that
has been smashed and clashed
When I walk in the room the room gave way
then I walked away so I could go to the

"This week in our literacy classes, in (writing), we have been learning all about how to write a poetry. We've learnt that poetry can be used in any word saying of some sort, like perhaps, in most celebrity official music, raps as in Eminem, poems such as this one. There are loads of ways people can express poetry. Thank you for reading this!"

How To Prevent Yourself From Getting Sick

toonvectors-782-140.jpg
How to prevent yourself from getting sick: CRAFT
Remember the S.E.E structure.
S
Statement - Use a sentence starter to state a cause - To prevent yourself from getting sick you...
e
Explain - Define the cause - this means . . .
e
Evidence/Example - explain the effect of the cause - if you do that then . . .

Title
What is your Explanation about?
How to prevent yourself from getting sick.
Introduction
What are you going to explain?  Why is it important for us to pay attention to what you have to say?
Have you ever been sick of being sick? Well... this is an explanation about... how to prevent yourself from getting sick as you can see from the title. Tune in and you will, hopefully be able to keep yourself away from the cold or any other sickness.
Paragraph One
What is the first way you we can prevent yourself from getting sick?  How does that prevent people getting sick?

One of the easiest and best ways to prevent yourself from getting sick is to never   share your food or drinks with a person that has the flu or a person who is feeling unwell. This means you should always never accept anything that they give you if they have bitten it whether it’s a piece of sandwich. If they give you a sandwich that they have bitten you could take the part that they bitten and eat the rest. If you do this... you will not have other people's bacteria. This will stop you from getting other people sick by spreading them around the place from any kind of sickness.

Paragraph Two
What is the second way we can prevent yourself from getting sick? How does that prevent people getting sick?
Another way to prevent yourself from getting sick, is to keep warm so that you wouldn't get the cold. To keep warm you should wear a nice warm jacket/jumper or you could just get anything that you’ll be comfortable and warm in. Most people just stay inside their homes while it’s the winter or it is just cold outside and have a cup of hot chocolate. If you do this, you won’t get the cold and it will avoid your body from getting a bad sickness. If you don’t do this, you will get yourself or others sick.
Paragraph Three
What is the third way you can prevent yourself from getting sick?  How does that prevent people getting sick
The third way of preventing yourself from getting sick is to use hand sanitizer when you have been playing outside and etc to stop you from getting germs from others. If you do this, you will be a really healthy person...well depends on what you eat everyday. By using a hand sanitizer you will be able to keep the germs away.
Conclusion
The conclusion sums up all the ideas and repeats a key message to end.  This could be a recommendation or a personal connection.
Now that you know how to prevent yourself from getting sick... you can now live a happy life and maybe you could even tell another person about why it is important to use hand sanitizers or any skin products.

Paraphrasing Activity- Cipher Wheel

1. Firstly you will need to cut out four strips of paper horizontally and they all should be at least 1 centimetres wide and about 30 centimetres long. Then you will need to get some pieces of tape and attach up the four strips of paper.

2. Write the word ‘start’ on one end of the long strip and also write ‘start’ on the left-hand end of the wheel.

3. Tape on the ‘start’ end of the paper strip below the word ‘start’, right on the cipher wheel. To make the edges of the paper touch each other.
5. For every line of writing, write each letter of the word separately onto the wheel and write your message just as you would write on a normal piece of paper.

6. Then all you do is wind up the strip smoothly around the wheel and tape down the end of the paper on the wheel.

7. After that, leave a gap between the word on one strip and there is your finished product. Now you’re ready to go on your spy mission.

Today for literacy, Mr Wiseman gave us a reading task to complete and here it is. My task is about how to make a cipher wheel and here is a picture of my completed cipher wheel and the instructions about how to make it. I hope you enjoyed.

Buoyed by the prospect of that, he gulped down the remnants of his coffee and flicked open his laptop. There was a flight leaving tonight (could he be so impetuous?) He had never been a risk taker, his carefully plotted career path had brought him to this point, he just had to preserve. The prospect of that was overwhelming. He could be free to explore endless new options. The cursor blinked on the ‘BUY NOW’ button. His finger hovered over ‘ENTER’ he sighed, closed his laptop and went back to work.

Excerpts from   StoryByte #16: Going Home   www.sharpreading.com

When the little girl open the door of her grandmother’s house, she saw that there was somebody in bed with a nightcap and night gown on. She had approached no nearer than twenty-five feet from the bed when she saw that it was not her grandmother but the wolf. So the little girl took an automatic pistol out of her basket and shot the wolf dead.

It cast a gloom over the boat, there been no mustard. We ate our beef in silence. Existence seemed hollow and uninteresting.
