How To Show Empathy

WALT: Comprehend concepts related
to mental health and emotional promotion.
What is empathy?
The ability to understand and believe the feelings of another.
Why is it important to show empathy toward others?
The intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.
What does it mean to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes”?
To forgive them and helping each other, being friends even though you don’t know them.
What does that have to do with empathy?
It has feelings in it and it helps people.
What can you do to show empathy toward another person?
Respect others as they respect you.



Make a popplet or Google drawing a displaying ways that you can reach out to others.

Think of a time when you hurt someone’s feelings. Describe what happened.
I broke my friends feelings by teasing him. I got really really mad my emotions felt a heart breaking feeling. I hurt him with words. But after that I was sorry.
How did you know you hurt the person’s feelings?
He was crying and mad.
How did you feel about the situation?
I felt unhappy
What did you do to make the situation better?
We talked about it and made our problems go away.
Discuss how you think your school would change if all of the students showed empathy toward each other.
Students would respect others and be loyalty to others. It will change everything.
Do you think it would be a big change or a small change? Why do you think so?
It will be a big change because i is a helpful thing to us.
